I have always known that I wanted to practice medicine. Even at a young age, I felt like it was something I was destined to do. Unfortunately, this dream was almost lost to me forever. Although I had been a great student for most of my life, personal challenges caused me to fail out of college. I was told by many that I should just give up and choose another career field to pursue. But I knew that medicine was my calling, and I decided that I would do whatever I needed to do to see this goal through to the very end. My thought process was, I had to at least try; and if I failed, at least I knew it was not due to lack of effort.
I wrote this book for the student who may have been told that they cannot bounce back from academic difficulties. Through my story of failure and success, I wanted to provide a resource that will help others avoid the mistakes I made as I worked hard to make myself a competitive applicant, in spite of my low undergraduate GPA. I am a firm believer that anyone is capable of accomplishing whatever it is they set their mind to, as long as they are committed to do the work. It is my hope that my story will inspire others to be fearless in the pursuit of their dreams.
